England have made a brilliant comeback in the second Test match at Trent Bridge against West Indies. In the process, they have made 400-plus runs in both innings of the match and this is the first time in the history of Test cricket that the English team have achieved this milestone.

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. England piled up 416 in the first innings with a century from Ollie Pope. There were several other contributions as well. West Indies made a fightback themselves with the bat as they scored 457 in their first innings and took a healthy lead.

The hosts then outbatted their opposition as they lessened the deficit by scoring over 400 runs again in the second innings. Centuries from Harry Brook (109) and Joe Root (122) in the second innings have helped England take a lead of over 350 in the second innings.

Overall in Test cricket, teams have scored over 400 runs in a Test innings twice 12 times. England has been at the receiving end of it five times as a bowling side. Australia have scored over 400-plus six times in Test cricket. India did it thrice and South Africa, Pakistan and England one.

Australia did it six times between 1924 and 2008 across different oppositions. South Africa did it against England in Durban in 1939. India did it against Pakistan in 2005, against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad in 2009, and against England in 2024. Pakistan did it against India in the Faisalabad Test in 2006. Recently England did it against West Indies in the second Test match at Trent Bridge.

Shoaib Bashir was the final wicket to fall for England as they were bowled out for 425. This has been a terrific comeback by England after their bowlers allowed West Indies to overtake their first innings score of 416. The visitors now need 385 runs to win the second Test match with one and a half days remaining.

It's an uphill task and the batters need to bat very well to achieve this total. England despite their win against West Indies in the first Test are still placed last on the WTC points table. West Indies, on the other hand, are placed sixth. They faced an innings defeat in the first Test and are now up against England in the second Test. Jayden Seals took 4/97 with the ball. Alzarri Joseph took 2/103. Shamar Joseph, Jason Holder, and Kevin Sinclair picked up a wicket each.
