Only a few hours ago, it was reported that Hardik Pandya was on the verge of joining the team for the ODI series against Afghanistan. Now, all of a sudden, on the morning of June 10, it is reported that Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the India vs Afghanistan ODI series because of fresh injury concerns.
Injuries are part of a player’s career; it is the duration between two contrasting reports that is forcing the cricket fans to think differently. If the latest reports are to be believed, Pandya has been ruled out of the Afghanistan ODI series due to quadriceps strain.

Irrelevant to Pandya’s IPL 2026 performance with the Mumbai Indians, whenever he played for the national team, he tried to deliver his best. He played a vital role in both of the occasions when Men in Blue claimed the 2024 and 2026 ICC T20 World Cup titles. Because of his constant all-round performance throughout the season, he was named to the ICC Team of the Tournament, finishing the campaign with nine wickets and crucial batting cameos.
There are multiple pace bowling all-rounders in Indian cricket, but as of now, none of them comes near the stature of Hardik Pandya. As he has been ruled out of the ODI series, Nitish Kumar Reddy is the only seam bowling all-rounder in the existing squad.
Shivam Dube is another pace bowling all-rounder who has made his name in the T20Is, but also sustained a poor IPL 2026 season. Harshit Rana, who emerged as a pacer before developing batting skills, missed the T20 World Cup 20206 and IPL 2026 entirely because of injury.
Fitness Issues Continue To Raise Questions
Indian star cricketers, who feature for the national side and in the Indian Premier League, often go close to the threat of injury concerns because of the tight schedule. During the IPL 2026 season, there have been a lot of reports about injuries.
Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, and Virat Kohli are the players whose returns are under concern because of injury concerns. No denial, increasing demand on the cricket calendar comes with a lot of injury updates. It is the duty of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to protect their top tier talents.
BCCI Not Convinced About Hardik Pandya's Form And Fitness For 2027 World Cup
The ODIs are crucial ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Under the regime of head coach Gautam Gambhir, the team management mostly relies on the emerging talents over the senior cricketers.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have done a lot for the national team over the years, are also not confirmed to play the upcoming World Cup. Pandya’s spot in the playing combination seems to be also under threat.
Hardik Pandya also ruled out of the ODI series due to quadricep injury now. Told you the other day the selectors aren’t really 100 percent convinced about his full fitness for 2027 World Cup and that’s why Nitish Reddy is being looked upon as more than just a ‘backup’ for Hardik.…
