Former Nepal Captain Paras Khadka Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Former Nepal captain Paras Khadka announced his retirement from international cricket by a Twitter post on Tuesday.

Paras Khadka,33, had played all the 10 ODI matches of the Nepal team, captaining in 6 of them with 3 wins. He scored 315 runs at 35.00, with a century and a half-century to his name, in addition to 9 wickets at 27.00.

He had featured in 33 T20Is, captaining in 27 of those, out of a total of 39 Nepal has played. The all-rounder aggregated 799 runs at 27.55, notched up a hundred and four fifties in his T20I career, alongside 8 wickets in his bag.

Paras Khadka announces international retirement-aged 33:

“Playing for Nepal has been my biggest achievement and for that I will always be indebted towards my coaches, players, fans, stakeholders, friends and family for their continuous support over the last 18 years since I started as a young 15 year old back in 2002,” he said in his statement.

“The amazing journey on a cricket field as an international cricketer ends here but the cricket dreams for my country have just started,” he added.

He will continue to play lower levels of the game. Paras Khadka had made his first-class debut back in 2004. He also featured in three Under-19 World Cups – in 2004, 2006, and 2008 before being named captain of the side in 2009.

The right-hander was the Man of the Tournament in the Under-19 ACC Trophy in 2007, helping Nepal qualify for the 2008 World Cup, where he took 12 wickets charging the side to their second successive Plate final.

Paras Khadka’s last competitive game was a T20I against Thailand in Bangkok in March last year before the pandemic struck. In November he was shortlisted for the ICC men’s Associate cricketer of the decade award.
In April earlier this year, Nepal won a Tri-Nation T20 tournament involving Malaysia and Netherlands, defeating the latter in the final by a heavy margin of 142 runs.
