India will play their opening game against Australia on October 8 (Sunday). India will be led by Rohit Sharma in ICC World Cup 2023. Some youngsters have also showcased a superb form in ODIs since the start of this year and they also have a high chance of getting a place in the squad.

Similarly, there are also a few veteran and out-of-form players who might be snubbed from the tournament. Here we take a glance at 5 Indian players who should quit their dream of playing in ICC World Cup 2023.
From Shikhar Dhawan To Rishabh Pant, Here Are The Indian Players Who Would Have Quit Their Dream Of Playing ICC World Cup 2023
5. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is the first Indian player on this list. Till Shubman Gill came into the picture, Dhawan was one of the permanent members of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, Gill’s rise as a powerful opening batter has lessened Dhawan’s chances of making it to the ICC World Cup 2023.
Since the start of this year, Dhawan has not played a single ODI game- the only format which he used to represent for the last 3-4 years. He is not even picked in IND vs WI ODI series. This clearly reveals that selectors do not wish to play him in further ODI campaigns.

4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another player on this list. Last year, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the key bowler for Team India in both ODIs and T20Is. He led the pace attack for the team during the last 4-5 years in white-ball formats and also won many Man of the Series awards.
However, after India’s ouster in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not picked in any series. Since the start of this year, the right-arm pacer has vanished from the national team.
3. Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda made his ODI debut last year and he was a fine performer in the format. He slammed 153 runs in 10 games at an average of 25.50. He also picked 3 wickets while bowling at an economy of 4.76, showing that he can be a useful occasional bowler too.
However, his form dropped drastically since the start of this year. In IPL 2023, he got out for single digits in most of the games while playing for Lucknow Super Giants. He is also not part of the IND vs WI ODI series and will not get any opportunity to be part of the ICC World Cup 2023.
2. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is another player who should quit his dream of playing in the ICC World Cup 2023. Pant faced a road accident in December 2022 and has been in recovery mode since then. He is expected to return to Asia Cup 2023 in September, where his form will be analyzed.
However, wicketkeepers like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and even KL Rahul are also probable options for the tournament. Even if Pant returns to the team in Asia Cup 2023, he has to perform well to grab his spot in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Sanju Samson showed a stupendous form in ODIs last year, batting at an average of 71 across 10 ODI games last year. Ishan Kishan shattered an incredible double century against Bangladesh in December 2022.
Similarly, KL Rahul scored two match-winning knocks in ODIs- one against Bangladesh in December 2022 and one against Australia in March 2023. Hence, these three wicket-keepers have shown marvelous form in ODIs in the last year and they can outplay Rishabh Pant for the final spot.
1. Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna made his ODI debut last year. In 11 ODI games, the right-arm pacer grabbed 19 wickets at an average of 22.31. Bowling at an economy of just 4.86, the 27-year-old proved that he can be a crucial pacer in ICC World Cup 2023.
However, due to an injury, Krishna missed a lot of games. He has not played a single ODI game this year and is also not part of the forthcoming IND vs WI ODI series.
Since he did not play in IPL 2023, he has no stats that will work in his favor for the World Cup selection. Hence, he should also quit his dream of playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup this year.
