Delhi Capitals (DC) finished sixth in IPL 2024 and endured yet another disappointing season in the IPL. They played the final in IPL 2020 and made it to the playoffs in IPL 2021.

Continuity has been a major problem for Delhi Capitals over the years. They have invested heavily in big names in India and overseas players but returns have been few and far between. As per reports, Ricky Ponting has stepped down from his position of head coach and Sourav Ganguly is likely to replace him. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel are the two players the franchise will surely retain before the mega auction.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the franchises had a meeting with the IPL. They came out with a few suggestions and there were heated debates on a few other topics as well.

The number of retentions was spoken about a lot. Almost all the franchises have spoken unanimously about allowing teams to retain at least seven to eight players so that much of the core of the side can be retained.

The BCCI in return has said that they will evaluate all the suggestions put forward by the franchises and will come out with a concrete decision by the end of August. In this article, we take a look at three Indian players DC will release ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Along with RCB and PBKS, Delhi Capitals are among the three original franchises in the IPL to have never won the IPL. Every year, Delhi seems to bring in a good squad but the players cannot deliver as they promise. The IPL 2025 mega auction, gives them an opportunity once again to build the side from scratch and aim for their first IPL title.

Indian Players Delhi Capitals Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Prithvi Shaw

Shaw has been one of the leading run-getters for Delhi Capitals. He played his best for the franchise between IPL 2028-2021. However, in the last few seasons, he has been hugely inconsistent.

He scored just 106 runs in 2023 averaging 13.25. In 2024, he failed to cross even the 200 mark in the season in the 8 games that he played. With DC looking for a consistent opener, Shaw might be shown the door.

Ricky Bhui

Bhui is an experienced domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh. However, he has failed to replicate his form in the IPL. He has played for two teams including the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

However, he has not performed as expected from both the franchises. For DC, in IPL 2024 he played two matches with a best score of just three. The Capitals might not be interested in continuing with him.

Kumar Kushagra

Kushagra might be the third player likely to be released by Delhi Capitals. He batted thrice in four matches two of them as an Impact Sub but failed to make the most of the opportunity.

The Jharkhand cricketer made his List A debut on 20 February 2021, for Jharkhand in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before his debut, he was named in India's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
