Lucknow Super Giants endured a tough season in IPL 2024 as they failed to make it to the knockouts for the third consecutive season. LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka had a fallout with skipper KL Rahul as per reports. Reports further add that he is all set to leave the franchise.

Gautam Gambhir mentored the franchise for the first two seasons and took them to the knockouts. Under Justin Langer, they could not replicate the success they had under Gambhir. Nevertheless, the side found some new heroes and some new talents as well.

LSG might look to revamp themselves if Rahul eventually leaves the franchise. Meanwhile, owner Sanjeev Goenka was brought into bad light over his behavior with Rahul after their the SuperGiants suffered a 10-wicket loss to SRH.

They ended seventh on the table with seven wins and as many losses with performances from a few of their key players not up to the mark. Despite LSG's lean patch in IPL 2024, Rahul finished with 520 runs at an average of nearly 40.

After the recent meeting between the IPL owners and the BCCI, all the franchises are now worried about retentions.

KKR and SRH voiced their opinion on the matter asking the board to allow maximum retentions. They also said that if not maximum retentions, maximum RTMs should be allowed to the board.

Franchises also are not in favour of the Impact Player rule as well as they think it limits the role of all-rounders. The BCCI meanwhile, has clarified that they will come to a final decision by the end of August after reviewing all the suggestions put forward by the different franchises.

The number of retentions remains their most important concern as the board is looking to make innovations in the tournament keeping its sanctity alive. In this article, we take a look at overseas players LSG might release ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Overseas Players Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Kyle Mayers

With KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock opening the batting, Kyle Mayers did not get any matches for the Super Giants.

He was impactful with the bat for them in IPL 2023 scoring three back-to-back fifties in the first three games with Quinton De Kock benched. However, with DeKock's return, he lost his place in the side. Thus he might be released by the franchise.

Shamar Joseph

The young West Indian pacer might be another overseas player who can be released by LSG. He came in as a replacement for Mark Wood who was ruled out of the season with an injury.

He played his debut game against KKR displaying his raw pace but was erratic. Joseph came to prominence after bowling West Indies to a win over Australia in the Test match at the Gabba.

Mark Wood

The England pacer might be another overseas player released. He missed the season due to injury and thus might be released before the mega auction. Lucknow might eventually buy him back at the mega auctions but they might think of releasing him to fill the purse.

He is another of the leading pacers in world cricket but very prone to injuries. He played four games for the franchise in IPL 2023 taking 11 wickets.
