Sai Sudharsan, on Friday (May 10), created history by becoming the fastest Indian player to score 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The left-handed batsman achieved the feat during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He reached 1000 runs in IPL when he hit CSK pacer Simarjeet Singh for successive sixes in the 11th over and moved to 71 runs off 38 deliveries.

Sai Sudharsan completed 1000 runs in just 25 innings and broke the record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both Tendulkar and Gaikwad had completed 1000 runs in 31 innings. Tendulkar had completed 1000 IPL runs in 2022 while Gaikwad did it in 2022.

Sai Sudharsan's IPL career so far:

Sai Sudharsan made his debut in the IPL in 2022 after being signed up by Gujarat Titans who were making their IPL debuts that year as well. In his first IPL season, the Tamil Nadu star played only 5 games and scored 145 runs with the help of one half-century as Gujarat Titans went on to win the title.

In the second season, he became a key member of the team as he played 8 games. In those eight games, he scored 362 runs including a 96-run knock against Chennai Super Kings in the final. Unfortunately, his effort went in vain as CSK won the game.

For the 2024 season, Sai Sudharsan has become an indispensable part of the GT side. Talking about the ongoing game against CSK, the southpaw went on to score his maiden IPL century. He scored 103 runs off 51 balls with the help of five fours and seven sixes.
