Harshit Rana penalized for provocative send-off in DPL
PC: X

Kolkata Knight Riders' star pacer Harshit Rana was punished severely for giving a fiery send-off to the batter in the ongoing Delhi Premier League, as the organizers cited the act as provocative for an aggressive reaction.

India pacer Harshit Rana's such moments of fiery send-off and high-voltage arguments with players are not something new, which usually fit with the usual standards set by former Delhi cricketers, largely known for their excessive aggression.

The KKR fame made it to the Indian side and has given some strong performances across all three formats, making his debut last year. Rana was part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well as India's victorious 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign.

Harshit Rana was punished for a provocative act in DPL

Despite past warnings as well as bans, Harshit Rana did not curb his natural instincts, and once again, his fiery side has been unleashed in the recent game of the Delhi Premier League.

In the recent match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between the North Delhi Strikers and the West Delhi Lions, he returned with figures of 1/33 in his 4 overs as his team earned an 11-run win after having scored 165 runs.

Leading the North Delhi side, the 23-year-old pacer dismissed batter Ayush Doseja in the third over of the innings, and in a moment of heat, he pointed his fingers towards the pavilion, asking him to leave. However, the organizers cited this as a provocative act.

The North Delhi skipper was fined 10% of his match fees for breaching the DPL code of conduct, while the pacer admitted to the offence; hence, no official hearing was needed.

“Harshit Rana admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 (Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the Match) and accepted the Match Referee's sanction,” the DPL's official statement read.

Harshit Rana has a history of violating the Code of Conduct

The KKR pacer is largely known for his aggression, which was evident in the BGT as well as the 2024 season of the IPL. In a match against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens, he was handed a one-match ban.

He was also docked 100% of his match fees for giving a quiet send-off to Abhishek Porel. In total, the Indian youngster suffered two such fines in the single season of the IPL, where KKR ended up being the champions.

Two more players were fined in the same match in the DPL

Not only the Harshit Rana incident, but the entire match between the North Delhi Strikers and the West Delhi Lions was a heated affair. The organizers punished two more players after they breached the Code of Conduct.

North Delhi batter Yajas Sharma has been docked 20% of the match fees for using an audible obscenity during the match, while West Delhi batter Krish Yadav has also been docked the same percentage of match fees for a similar offence.

The match referee imposed all these sanctions, and even the players accepted the Level 1 offence.
