Right-arm pacer Akash Deep who is playing his debut Test match for India in the 4th Test at Ranchi against England, was touted for major success and cause an instant impact with his performance right away, claims his Bengal team selector Subhomoy Das while speaking to My Khel in a recent interview.
Akash Deep has indeed taken England by storm as he has racked up 3 of the 5 wickets that fell in the 1st session. After a strong start given by opening batters Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, the English contingent suffered a dramatic top-order collapse on a Ranchi surface that has produced an uneven amount of bounce until now.
Akash Deep shines with 3 wickets of Duckett, Crawley, and Pope
The Bihar-born Bengal state team bowler in the domestic circuit had claimed his maiden Test wicket well before the 10th over as he mistakenly bowled a no-ball before making amends. Akash Deep first led to the removal of 3rd Test’s only centurion from the English contingent Ben Duckett with a pacey length ball that took his outside edge to the gloves of Dhruv Jurel.
2 balls later in the 10th over, the Bengal pacer cleaned up the stumps with an unplayable in-swinger of Duckett’s partner Zak Crawley for 42 runs. Both English openers were sent back to the pavilion in just a matter of time and only an over later, Akash was at it again.
This time he caught LBW of number 3 batter Ollie Pope whose decision of shuffling down the track proved to be costly. Then it was time for the spinners to join the party with Ravichandran Ashwin claiming his 502nd Test wicket by trapping Jonny Bairstow and 3rd Test’s man of the match Ravindra Jadeja removed skipper Ben Stokes with another LBW from a ball that kept extremely low or didn’t bounce at all after pitching.
The visitors were 112/5 before Lunch itself and most of the credit must go to Akash Deep who is experiencing a dream debut much like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel did in the previous Test.
“He has all the ingredients” – Bengal selector opines on Akash Deep’s potential
Going by Akash Deep’s Bengal selector Subhomoy Das’ words, the right-arm pacer is destined for greatness in the international circuit due to his raw pace and accurate lines, as seen in the on-going 4th Test. Subhomy Das had so much belief in Akash that he was not shocked when he received his maiden call-up.
“I was absolutely not surprised about Akash Deep playing for India. The pace at which he bowls is quite sublime and he has all the ingredients to be successful in international cricket. He can become India’s trump card in the coming days.” – Subhomoy Das told My Khel.
“He was bowling excellently for India A and everyone was very impressed, not just with his wicket-taking ability but his pace as well. I am very proud of him and I believe he will do better in near future.” – Das concluded.
