Former Indian pacer and Mumbai Indians’ talent scout Vinay Kumar feels that Rohit Sharma has emerged as a big help for KL Rahul at the opening slot during ongoing India’s tour of England. He also said Rohit Sharma has been an advantage for KL Rahul as an opening partner since the former has a lot of experience.

Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have undertaken the job of openers for the Indian team in the ongoing Test series against England. Both the right-handed batsmen have executed their job fairly so far, helping the team to get a strong start. In the previous Lord’s Test, Rahul and Sharma managed an opening stand of 126 runs, with the former hitting a century (129) and the latter smashing an 83-run knock.

Having Rohit Sharma As An Opener Has Been A Lot Of Help For KL Rahul: Vinay Kumar

While speaking to the Mumbai Indians franchise, former Indian cricketer Vinay Kumar called Rohit Sharma to be a big advantage for KL Rahul as an opening partner. He also lauded the fighting spirit shown by the Rohit-Rahul pair while batting in the Lord’s Test.

“When it comes to the second Test, the way they came back with the same fighting spirit they’d shown earlier, the Rahul-Rohit innings, it was unbelievable to watch. Rahul wasn’t a first-choice opener, but the way he performed was great.

“Having Rohit as an opener has been a lot of help for Rahul. Having a senior, who has performed so well for so many years, and having inputs on playing in English conditions, all this helped Rahul, making Rohit an advantage for him,” Vinay Kumar said.

Vinay Kumar also lauded Indian pacers for their astonishing bowling attack against the Joe Root-led home side in the 2nd Test.

“The way the bowlers bowled, Siraj, Ishant, Shami – everyone did pretty well, especially the fourth innings. Most people thought India might lose that game. But the third innings batting performance, the way Pujara and Rahane batted, the way Pujara played 200-odd balls to score 40-odd runs with Rahane scoring his 50, was great,” Vinay Kumar further said.

KL Rahul is the 2nd highest run-getter in the series currently with 244 runs in 4 innings at an average of 61.
