Mark Watt revealed that his interaction with Ravichandran Ashwin during the T20 World Cup 2021 inspired him to analyse the opposition.

Mark Watt caught attention once again as he was spotted referring to a chit-paper to strategize his bowling during the Cricket World Cup Qualifier against the UAE. The left-arm spinner read from a piece of paper before delivering his second over, using the information to exploit the UAE batsmen’s weaknesses.

In a conversation with the ICC, Mark Watt recalled his conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin during the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup.

“Yeah, it’s just analysing stuff that goes back to when we played against India in the World Cup,” Watt said in the ICC video.

“I spoke to Ashwin and he told me about all the analysis work that he did against Scotland. So I was like if was doing it against Scotland, I should be doing it against everyone. Just learning from the top bowlers,” he added.

In reply, the UAE team were bowled out for just 171 runs. Safyaan Sharif was the top performer in Scotland’s bowling attack, taking wickets for 20 runs. The team will be hoping to advance to the Super Six stage with a win in their next game against Oman on Sunday, June 25.
