Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal has recalled legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne’s punishment for latecomers Ravindra Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008, which was the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league.

Legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne, who recently passed away due to a suspected heart attack, was captaining the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008 and the team won the tournament against all odds by defeating MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the summit clash.

Meanwhile, several former Rajasthan Royals players who were part of the IPL 2008 triumph, during a documentary that focussed on RR’s title win under Warne, recalled the memories from the tournament. Kamran Akmal revealed that Warne had once asked the bus driver to stop the bus and told the latecomers Yusuf and Jadeja to come on foot.

“Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja were a little late for practice. So, at that time, Warne didn’t say anything. Even I was late but I had joined the side a little late, so he didn’t do anything to me,” Akmal recalled in a Sports Yaari documentary.

“So, we were done with practice and we left the stadium. When we were returning, he asked the driver to stop the bus. Then he turned towards the two and said ‘You guys come on foot’.”

Former Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer, Siddarth Trivedi, who was part of the Rajasthan-based franchise between 2008-2013, recalled a unique punishment that Warne used to give to latecomers. He revealed that the players were forced to carry a doll named ‘Pinky’ for 24 hours when they were late for team meetings.

“Yusuf and Jadeja had to deboard the bus when the hotel was still around 1-2 km away. Another punishment was that whoever was late to the team meetings had to carry this doll named ‘Pinky’ for 24 hours! The player had to carry the doll everywhere; in the team meetings, meet-and-greet with sponsors, everywhere!” Trivedi recalled.
