Simone Callahan, the ex-wife of Australian spin legend Shane Warne, has strongly criticized Channel Nine’s new television mini-series centred around the late cricketer. Simone Callahan raised concerns about the timing of the release and described the decision to air the documentary as unkind and mean-spirited.

Shane Warne passed away at the age of 52 on March 4 of last year due to a heart attack during his vacation on Koh Samui in Thailand. A mini-series titled “Warnie”, is scheduled to be broadcast on June 25. Australian actors Alex Williams and Marny Kennedy played the roles of Warne and Callahan, respectively.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Simone Callahan expressed her disappointment, stating that they didn’t show any compassion and only devoted a short amount of time to the series.

“I haven’t wanted to read into too much about it, but I think it’s a bit unkind and mean-spirited to be honest. He’s just passed, let him rest in peace,” Simone Callahan said.

“And for the kids, I just believe that they’re not showing any compassion at all by putting this out there in such a short amount of time after this has happened. To be honest but that’s how I feel about it,” she added.

You Are Beyond Disrespectful – Brooke Warne

Earlier, Brooke Warne, the eldest daughter of cricket legend Shane Warne, voiced her criticism against Channel Nine following the announcement of a mini-series focusing on her late father’s life.

“Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family? He did so much for Channel Nine, and now you want to dramatise his life and our family’s life six months after he passed away? You are beyond disrespectful,” she wrote on Instagram.

Warne represented Australia in 145 Tests and 194 ODIs between 1992 and 2007. The former leg spinner picked up 708 and 293 wickets in Tests and ODIs, respectively. He held the record for the highest number of wickets in red-ball cricket until it was surpassed by Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.
