His Experience As Mumbai Indians Skipper At The IPL Would Help - Aamer Sohail Believes Rohit Sharma Is The Right Choice For Captaincy
Former Pakistan cricketer Aamer Sohail asserted that Rohit Sharma is the right choice to take over the white-ball captaincy as he has experience leading Mumbai Indians to IPL trophies in the past.
Rohit took over from Virat Kohli after the latter stepped down as the T20I captain before being sacked as the ODI captain. The changes have been made with an eye on building the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“Rohit Sharma is a good choice as a captain. His batting doesn’t seem to get affected by captaincy. Of course, his experience as the Mumbai Indians skipper at the IPL (Indian Premier League) would help.”
“IPL helps the new players get prepared and make them comfortable with the camera. But I believe the IPL performances should not be the criterion for selection to the Test team; it should be based only on First-Class cricket,” Sohail told Sportstar.
Cricket fans are deprived of Ind-Pak clashes, says Aamer Sohail
Sohail also added that the two nations, India and Pakistan need to find a way to organise matches by keeping politics aside as it will help the growth of the game and ensure high levels of entertainment for the fans.
The two teams only play against each other in the ICC events and their next game will be in the T20 World Cup 2022 at the MCG.
