New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan said that he felt ‘really bad’ for Rohit Sharma as India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup final. McClenaghan emphasized that Rohit deserved the trophy for his contributions to Indian cricket over the past few years.

Rohit Sharma played a key role as India’s captain in the World Cup, setting the stage for his teammates with skillful batting. The Men in Blue failed to beat Australia in the summit clash, despite the team’s entertaining and efficient performances throughout the tournament.

It Would Have Been A Big Trophy For Rohit Sharma – Mitchell McClenaghan

Speaking on the sidelines of Legends League Cricket 2023, Mitchell McClenaghan expressed his respect for Australia’s bowling unit, emphasizing that bowlers play a crucial role in winning finals.

“You have to respect their bowling unit, I know Warner and Head played very well, but in my opinion bowlers win your final, just won with me Bumrah, and Malinga, because there is pressure on the batters to score runs,” McClenaghan told reporters.

“So I think, I would not say that Australian bowlers were far more experienced, but they have done that, they have won a World Cup for Australia previously too. I feel really bad for Rohit, in particular, because I know how much preparation he puts into the tournament, it would have been a big trophy for him. He deserved to win the Trophy, looking at how he has turned Indian cricket around in the last couple of years,” he added.

They Got Off To A Very Poor Start – Mitchell McClenaghan

The Kiwi pacer acknowledged Australia’s impressive comeback in the tournament, highlighting their ability to overcome a poor start and perform well in India. McClenaghan pointed out Australia’s familiarity with Indian conditions and their previous performances.

“You have to give credit to Australia, as they got off to a very poor start in the tournament and a lot of people wrote them off. But they have played a lot in India, and even last year they were able to put up the show,” McClenaghan said.
