After the enthralling battle between bat and ball in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, the focus now turns towards the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The eight-nation tournament is all set to take place from 19th February in Pakistan and the UAE.

All the attention will be on the India National Cricket Team as they have come under massive pressure, especially after their poor performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 no doubt now will be a redemption tournament for them, and hence, all the spotlight will be on them.

Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be announced on 8th January or 9th January, Varun Chakravarthy in contention

The Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has now become one of the hot topics in Indian cricket. It is learned, as per the reports in RevSportz, that the squad for the tournament is all set to be announced on 8th January or 9th January after the officials of BCCI meet.

In the major development, it is learned that mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is also in contention to make the cut into the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

BCCI asks selector to keen eye on Varun Chakravarthy

Chakravarthy reportedly has impressed the selectors with his heroics in T20Is, and hence, they want him to be there for ODIs as well.

The reports added that BCCI has asked one of the selectors to keep a close eye on Varun Chakravarthy, who is currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

The selector has been asked to monitor the spinner's fitness, along with his moments, and how well he covers the ground.

Varun Chakravarthy has been performing well in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25

Varun Chakravarthy has been performing well in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He has been the shining light for Tamil Nadu in the tournament. In the five games that he has played so far, he has picked 13 wickets at an average of 13.62 and also recently picked a fifer.

Varun Chakravarthy recently made a comeback into the Indian team in the T20Is, and since then, he has been nothing short of exceptional. He set the stage on fire in the T20I series Bangladesh National Cricket Team and took his game one step forward in the T20Is against South Africa.

The Tamil Nadu spinner is yet to make a debut in the ODIs. But it's fair to say that if BCCI is looking to add him to the team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, then there is a high chance that Varun Chakravarthy might make his debut for the team in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England.

The series against England will be the only series for the team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and hence, it is expected that the squad for those games will give a solid idea about the team for the tournament. Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the side, having faced a lot of criticism in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
