ICC Reveals Men's And Women's Player Of The Month For August 2023

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was named the ICC Player Of the Month For August 2023. In the process, he bagged the award for the third time this year. Babar is currently the number-one ranked ICC ODI batter.

He started his Asia Cup campaign with a brilliant 151 against Nepal. However, he has lost his form since that knock. Against India in the last match, Babar scored 10 off 24 balls as Pakistan failed to chase the target of 357 set by India.

Babar beat teammate Shadab Khan and West Indies hard-hitter Nicholas Pooran to win the award for the third time and the Pakistan captain was thrilled to accept the honour. He would like to do justice to this award by getting a big score in Pakistan’s next game in the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka on September 14.

Babar Azam Wins ICC Men’s Player Of The Month For Third Successive Time

“I am delighted to be named ICC Player of the Month for August 2023. The past month has been extraordinary for my team and I as we have put some terrific performances. With the Asia Cup coming to Pakistan after such a long time, it was great to play in front of the passionate and cricket-loving crowds of Multan and Lahore. That I scored my second ODI score of 150-plus in front of my own people in Multan doubled the joy,” Babar said.

“I am looking forward to making the most of the form as we head into an exciting phase of cricket with the backend of the Asia Cup nearing and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup around the corner. My team and I are eager to bring joy and happiness to the millions of Pakistan fans.”

Babar has ruled the ODI format in the month of August with the ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. He scored 113 runs in the three-match series with two fifties. Babar became the fastest batter to 19 ODI tons.

He reached the landmark in just 103 innings leaving behind names like Virat Kohli, Hashim Amla, David Warner, and AB De Villiers in the list.

Arlene Kelly Won the Women’s Player Of The Month For August 2023

Meanwhile, Ireland seamer Arlene Kelly won the Women’s Player Of The Month For August 2023. She recently took 10 wickets in the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands to help her side claim an emphatic 3-0 series sweep. He bowled with an average of 4.30 which is the fourth-best bowling average in a bilateral series where a bowler has taken 10 or more wickets.

“I’m honoured to win the award for the month of August and grateful for the opportunities that cricket has provided. The series win in the Netherlands was memorable, and being able to contribute with the ball made it that little bit more special,” Kelly said.
