ICC World Cup 2023: India Looking At Ishan Kishan As 2nd Wicketkeeping Option - RP Singh

Former India pacer RP Singh feels that Team India is looking at Ishan Kishan as the second-wicketkeeper option for ICC World Cup 2023. His words arrive after Ishan Kishan was picked in IND vs WI 1st ODI.
Although Sanju Samson is part of the India squad in the IND vs WI ODI series. Ishan Kishan was picked as the wicketkeeper in the opening ODI in Barbados. Moreover, the left-handed batter also opened the innings for the team with Shubman Gill, replacing Rohit Sharma at the top.

India Looking At Ishan Kishan As Second Wicketkeeper In ICC World Cup 2023: RP Singh
While speaking on Jio Cinema, cricketer-turned-commentator RP Singh said he feels India is looking at Ishan Kishan as the second wicketkeeper option for ICC World Cup 2023.
“I think the Indian team is looking at Ishan Kishan as the second wicketkeeping option. He got game time in the first ODI, so that he can play some balls and make some runs to remain confident in case KL Rahul is not available,” the 37-year-old said.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will commence on October 5 in India. India’s primary wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is highly expected to miss the tournament. The left-handed batsman suffered a road accident in December 2022. He has not played a single match this year.

In addition, KL Rahul is the next best wicketkeeper option for Team India in ODIs. However, he too is undergoing recovery. KL Rahul faced a thigh injury during IPL 2023. Later, he underwent thigh surgery. He is yet to become a match-fit.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson is another player who is part of the India squad in the IND vs WI ODI series. Samson played a lot of ODI games last year and also showed marvellous form. However, the right-handed batsman has not played any ODI game this year due to an injury in January.
Samson was snubbed in IND vs WI 1st ODI and Ishan Kishan was picked on his behalf. Kishan scored a wonderful fifty in the match as India won by 5 wickets. IND vs WI 2nd ODI takes place on July 29 (Saturday).
Interestingly, Kishan was also picked in IND vs WI Test series replacing KS Bharat. Kishan played in both games, hitting 1*, 25 and 52* across 3 innings of both Tests.
