Pakistani allrounder Imad Wasim believes India and Pakistan are likely to advance to the latter stages of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 and could even make it to the final.

India and Pakistan are two of the strongest contenders for the World Cup. Both teams have solid players at their disposal and the conditions only make them stronger. The thirteenth edition of the ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19 in India. Having co-hosted the tournament thrice in the past, India will be hosting the tournament alone for the first time.

A total of ten teams will be participating in the World Cup. According to the format, each team will play against the other nine teams once in the league stage before the top four teams make it to the final. Team India and Pakistan are scheduled to play the high-profile clash between them on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Imad Wasim on India and Pakistan’s chances:

With the World Cup not very far away, Imad Wasim has come up with his own prediction for the tournament. The veteran allrounder has backed both India and Pakistan to go deep in the tournament. He also stated that there could be a repeat of the 2017 Champions Trophy final where India and Pakistan locked horns against each other. Imad Wasim was a part of the Pakistan team that beat India to win its first Champions Trophy title.

“In India to beat India is a hard work and in One-Day cricket to beat Pakistan in Asian conditions is even harder. What I am seeing is Pakistan and India might go deep in the tournament. We might see the 2017 Champions Trophy final,” said Imad Wasim.

“That’s not being biased that Pakistan and India, they should play (the final). The thing is, they are very strong – India in India and Pakistan ODI cricket is blossoming for the past year and a half. So I am really excited (to see) how Pakistan gonna play in the Afghanistan series, the Asia Cup and the World Cup,” he added.

Before meeting in the World Cup, India, and Pakistan are set to play against each other in the upcoming Asia Cup. They will play against each other on September 2 and could play two more matches against each other if both of them make it to the final.
