Scotland won the toss and elected to field first in the match. The decision proved beneficial for the side as they managed to bundle out of the West Indies for just 181 runs in 43.5 overs. Brandon McMullen picked up a three-wicket haul while Chris Greaves, Mark Watt, and Chris Sole bagged two wickets each.

The top performer for West Indies in the batting department came from Jason Holder. The senior all-rounder scored 45 runs off 79 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six. Other than the star all-rounder no batter managed to reach into 40s.
Chasing the target, Brandon McMullen (69) and wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Cross (74) played amazing knocks and other batters chipped in with crucial runs as Scotland completed the run-chase in just 43.3 overs at the loss of three wickets.

Scotland managed to keep their hopes alive for the World Cup 2023 in India. However, the two-time World Cup winners West Indies have been eliminated from the race. This is the first time in history that West Indies have failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be the first World Cup without West Indies.
Overall, West Indies have had a horrible campaign as they lost to Zimbabwe, Netherlands, and now Scotland in the qualifiers. The champions of the 1975 and 1979 editions will need a massive turnaround to get back on track after the heartbreak in Zimbabwe.

I love West Indies
I love West Indian cricket
I still believe they can be the No.1 team in world cricket!— Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) July 1, 2023
West Indies are out of the World Cup. Even though it isn’t surprising…given how their standards have fallen in the last few years…it’s still a little disappointing to see the erstwhile champions of cricket to become a spectator for a world event.

Team liked by many globally missed out on T20 World Cup and now misses out on 50 overs World Cup beaten by Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Scotland. If things don’t improve , we might not see West Indies again in ICC events for a very long time in future.

40 years since they first failed to win the Cricket World Cup, West Indies have failed to qualify for the Cricket World for the first time!

The World Cup qualification is visible and hence ICC can’t do anything here.
But West Indies lost to UAE in last u19 WC and finished below them. UAE should have been given direct qualification for the next WC ideally, but ICC gave that to WI as UAE isn’t a full member

Dear WestIndies! What have you done with yourself? You were two times world champions based on a group of terrorising fast-bowlers the world would never see again. Why have you damaged yourself for sake of T20 cricket? The downfall of caribbean cricket is a loud msg for others!
