Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at foreign experts during a TV show. Without naming anyone, Sunil Gavaskar said that the Indian team don’t need their advice on the selection of Indian players.
His co-panellist Harbhajan Singh also took his side on the matter. He said he was amazed to see how foreigners are interested in Indian cricket rather than their own respective teams.
We Don’t Need Your Advice- Sunil Gavaskar
While speaking on Sports Tak, Sunil Gavaskar said that foreign experts should not be concerned about the Indian team. He also added that they are not selectors for India and don’t need to think about it. Although the former India skipper did not name anyone, he gave an indication that he was talking about South Africa and Australia players.
“You have a South African saying ‘he should’ve been in the team’. An Australian is saying ‘he should have been in the team. How is it their concern? They are not selectors for us. This happens a lot of times. Somebody is saying ‘he should bat at No.3. He should bat at No.4’. I mean come on, we don’t need your advice,” said the Indian batting legend.

This Totally Amazes Me: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the discussion on the show, agreed with Gavaskar’s opinions. He noted that these so-called experts don’t talk about their own teams and are more interested in Team India.
“I agree. 100% correct. After playing for their respective teams during their career, they are now coming and selecting Indian teams. How does this happen? This is something that amazes me.
No one allows us to go to Australia or England and make their team. But the so-called legends comment about India and say who should bat No.4 or No.3. Who will bowl the first bowler or the last over. Wow!” the former India spinner said.
The no.4 batting position has become quite an interesting debate in Indian team. Shreyas Iyer held the spot before March 2023, when he got injured. Suryakumar Yadav was given opportunities to showcase his strength at the slot.
However, he has not succeeded in the One-Day format so far. Iyer has also returned to the team. However, he has yet to come up with a marvellous batting knock show. In the previous ODI game against Pakistan, he got out for 14 runs. Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, India need to resolve their no.4 issue.
