The meeting between the IPL franchises and the BCCI was held on July 31, Wednesday in Mumbai on the roadmap of the tournament forward. Several franchises have given their own opinion.

There were a few heated exchanges as well between a few franchises and the BCCI has said that it will come to a conclusive decision by the end of August 2024. The meeting was held on the possible chances of the tournament in IPL 2025.

The two strongest recommendations have come from Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal and SRH owner Kavya Maran. Parth said that he wants the Impact Player rule to be scrapped because he thinks the rule is creating a detrimental impact on Indian cricket. Meanwhile, the young SRH owner favoured at least seven retentions.

In major bigger news, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisrs Hyderabad were among the concept of mega auctions. They have opined that has been that teams need continuity for brand-building and fan engagement. Both franchises were in favour of giving their matchwinners continuity. Meanwhile, Ness Wadia the co-owner of Punjab Kings have denied reports of animosity with KKR boss Shahrukh Khan.

Previously Rohit Sharma too was not in favour of the Impact Player rule as he said that diminished the role of the all-rounders. At the meeting, DC owner Parthi Jindal echoed the same sentiments.

Delhi Capitals IPL Owner Against Impact Player Rule

"Some people want it because it gives a chance to young players to play in the IPL. Some people don't want it because it is detrimental to Indian cricket in terms of the development of allrounders. So it's a mixed bag. I'm on the second camp. I don't want it."

"I prefer the game as it is 11 versus 11, and I think all-rounders are very important. And you have different players who don't bowl in the IPL or don't bat in the IPL because of this rule, which is not good for Indian cricket" Jindal said after the meeting as he too was in favour of retaining the core of the side.

Meanwhile, the number of retentions has been a talking point about IPL 2025 for a long time. There have been different opinions from different franchises with the number of retentions varying from one to eight. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran was in favour of a minimum of seven retentions at the meeting.

Reports in ESPN Cricinfo said that Kavya Maran requested the BCCI to not put a cap on the number of retentions overseas as well as capped and uncapped Indians a franchise could retain once the IPL had finalised the retention number. She further said that IPL owners should be allowed to retain the maximum number of players.

Several other franchises backed up Maran on this aspect of the auction and the message was made to the IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin about creating the brand value. Besides franchises also seemed to invest in continuity to the uncapped players that brought in the previous auctions.

Given that several players were against mega auctions as well the relevance of maga auctions and the salary cap were among the issues discussed as well in the meeting. The BCCIas said earlier will try to reach a consensus by the end of August.
