The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rubbished the reports of the Indian team wearing a different jersey for the clash against Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. The match between the two arch-rivals will take place on 14th October at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Recently reports came out that India will be wearing a saffron jersey for the clash against Pakistan. It was learned that the team will play in different attire as the kit will be auctioned off later to collect funds for UNESCO. The reports emerged after the Indian team was seen wearing saffron color training kits.
Amid all the rumors, BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar rubbished all the rumors and stated that all the reports are baseless and Indian team will be wearing their original Blue jersey for the game against Pakistan. He stated (as quoted by Indian Express):
“We categorically dismiss the media reports that Team India will be donning an alternative match kit against Pakistan. These reports are absolutely baseless and a work of someone’s imagination. The Men in Blue will sport India colours – Blue at ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.”
Notably, during the the 2019 World Cup, India wore different jersey in the game against England. All the teams had home and away jerseys. The Men in Blue wore saffron color attire against the hosts. The change in jersey for any team needs approval from the ICC.
