Australia captain Pat Cummins recently predicted for the leading run-scorer and leading wicket-taker in the ICC World Cup 2023. Pat Cummins named David Warner to top the batting charts and Mitchell Starc to the bowling charts for Australia in the World Cup.

The Pat Cummins-led team will kick off their World Cup campaign against Rohit Sharma-led India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. These two teams have already played two ODI series in Indian conditions, where the World Cup is being hosted.

In a recent interaction, Pat Cummins picked David Warner as the top scorer in the upcoming tournament, citing his strong record in India. Cummins named Mitchell Starc as the top wicket-taker for Australia, emphasizing his consistent performance in World Cups.

“For highest-scorer, David Warner, he always loves playing in India. For the top wicket taker, it has to be Mitchell Starc – he always does well in World Cups,” Cummins told RevSportz.

The Australian skipper expressed confidence in his team’s natural motivation and resilience during big events. He acknowledged the challenge of facing India in their home conditions but looking forward to the opening match.

“It’s pretty easy. You don’t need to say anything extra to the players during big matches and tournaments, they all are real fighters and are automatically motivated during such events,” Cummins added.

“Can’t wait to start the tournament after a pretty hectic couple of weeks with travel. India is always tough to play, especially in India. But I’m looking forward to starting the tournament by playing against them. It’s going to be a good game.”

The Australian cricket team will enter the tournament as a formidable contender despite losing the recent ODI series against India. They will miss the services of opener Travis Head in the first half of the tournament.

When asked about his responsibilities as a bowler and captain, Pat Cummins emphasized that his primary duty as a bowler is to perform at his best. He stressed the strong camaraderie and support within the team to help him make tactical decisions.

“My first job as a bowler is to be at the top of my game. My second job as a captain is to make sure everything is going according to the plan, making bowling and fielding changes, giving my players the room and freedom they need. As a captain, I am never alone out there. The boys are always great and supportive.”
