As Team India prepares for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia, former cricketer WV Raman has offered advice to the visiting team. WV Raman said that legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar should be appointed as the batting consultant for the upcoming five-match Test series.
The five-match Test series between India and Australia is set to begin in Perth on November 22. India enters the series after a disappointing performance in their home series against New Zealand, where they were whitewashed 0-3. It's worth noting that it was their first home Test series loss in over a decade.
WV Raman Urges BCCI to Appoint Sachin Tendulkar as Batting Consultant
WV Raman said that Sachin Tendulkar should be appointed as the batting consultant for Team India for the BGT 2024-25 series. Raman said that Tendulkar's experience could help the Indian batters adjust to the challenging Australian conditions. He said that there was enough time before the second Test.
"I think that #TeamIndia could benefit if they have the services of Tendulkar as the batting consultant in their prep for the #BGT2025. Enough time between now and the 2nd test. Roping in consultants is rather common these days. Worth a thought?" he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The India 'A' players, following their two-match series against Australia 'A', have joined the main squad to assist in preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Team India's Batting Performance Has Come Under Scrutiny
India's batting performance has come under scrutiny after the series against New Zealand. The home team recorded their lowest-ever home total, after being bowled out for 46 in the first innings of the opening Test match. India was dismissed for under 200 runs three times in six innings in the Test series.
India will have a 10-day gap between the first and second Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Sunil Gavaskar served as an advisor to the team during the 2004 home series against Australia. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are assistant coaches in the current Indian men's cricket team.
Sachin Tendulkar Had an Exceptional Record in Australia
Sachin Tendulkar had an exceptional record in Australia, scoring over 1,800 runs in Test matches at an impressive average of 53.20. Sachin never won a Test series in Australia during his career despite his exceptional performance.
The former right-handed batter also smashed six centuries and seven half-centuries in Australia. He scored an unbeaten 241 runs in the final Test of the 2003-04 series in Sydney.
The 51-year-old batter is also the all-time leading run-scorer in India-Australia Tests, amassing 3,630 runs at an average of 55, including 11 centuries. It's worth mentioning that Team India won the last two Test series in Australia (2018-19 and 2020-21) and will aim for a hat-trick of wins in the upcoming tour.
