Cricket commentator Sunil Gavaskar bashed Pakistan fans who made conspiracy theories that India will deliberately lose to Sri Lanka in Super Four round so that Pakistan cannot qualify for Asia Cup 2023 final. Sunil Gavaskar also said that India’s win against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 was a slap on such fans.
During India’s Super Four clash against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023, some Pakistan fans said that India would deliberately lose to Sri Lanka so that Pakistan could not reach the final. In a slow batting wicket, India could only pile up 213-10 in 1st innings.
As a result, some fans made assumptions that India was trying to lose the match deliberately. However, the men-in-blue crushed Sri Lanka for 172 in the 2nd innings, winning the game by 42 runs.
What A Tight Slap On The Faces Of All Those Across The Western Border: Sunil Gavaskar
In his column for Mid Day, Sunil Gavaskar lambasted Pakistan fans for making false assumptions about Team India.
“What a tight slap on the faces of all those across the Western border who were screaming and shrieking that Bharat (India), after being dismissed for 213 against Sri Lanka was purposely losing the game so as to deprive Pakistan of a place in the final”, Gavaskar wrote.

Gavaskar, who played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs from 1971 to 1987, also called them brainless as their logic did not make any sense. According to Gavaskar, if India had deliberately lost to Sri Lanka in Super Four round, they could have not reached the final later.
“Did these brainless people even think of the possibility that after Bharat loses the game to Sri Lanka and then Pakistan beat Sri Lanka and the Bharat v Bangladesh game gets rained off, it was Bharat who would not have qualified for the final. So why would Bharat lose deliberately to Sri Lanka? Morons,” Sunil Gavaskar further wrote.
Gavaskar also noted that when India crushed Sri Lanka in that match and Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka later, they could not come up with more conspiracy theories. Hence, they started slamming their skipper Babar Azam for Pakistan’s exit from Asia Cup 2023.
“When Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka and were knocked out of the tournament, we were expecting some more conspiracy theories blaming Bharat for the loss, but surprises never cease so they forgot everything else and concentrated on lambasting their skipper Babar Azam for their exit from the tournament,” said Gavaskar, who was the first player to reach 10K runs in international cricket.
During Super Four round, India won their two games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka to grab a spot in the final. Pakistan defeated Bangladesh but lost to India. Hence, they needed to crush Sri Lanka in a must-win match.
However, Sri Lanka outplayed Pakistan by 2 wickets to grab a berth in Asia Cup 2023 final. In the final, Sri Lanka faced a humiliating loss against India by 10 wickets. The hosts were all out for just 50 in 15.2 overs, registering their second-lowest total ever.
