Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Kuldeep Yadav for his marvelous performance in the Asia Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra feels that Kuldeep Yadav is special because he is an orthodox spinner.
Usually, left-arm spinners are finger spinners. For instance, left-armers Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are finger spinners. However, Kuldeep Yadav is a wrist-spinner unlike them.
I feel Kuldeep Yadav is the best spinner in the world: Aakash Chopra
While speaking on his YouTube channel, cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra hailed Kuldeep Yadav for his outstanding bowling show in Asia Cup 2023. Chopra feels that Kuldeep Yadav is the best spinner in the world at the moment.
“I feel Kuldeep is the best spinner in the world at the moment. If you see Kuldeep Yadav’s numbers, you say he is a proper wicket-taker. We are talking about spinners who have taken 150 ODI wickets. Firstly, 150 wickets is a very good number, it is not a small sample size,” Chopra said.
The reputed commentator also called him a special bowler because he is an orthodox spinner.
“He has taken only 85 innings to pick up 150 wickets. He has a strike rate of 30.1. He is special because he is orthodox. If you talk about Ajantha Mendis and Rashid Khan, they had or have mystery. This guy has no mystery. He bowls normal leg-spin and googly and traps you with that itself,” Chopra further added.
“Everyone says the spinner’s role has slightly reduced in ODI cricket because there are three powerplays and it is very difficult to bowl in the middle overs as an extra fielder is within the circle and the batter gets set before the last 10 overs,” concluded Aakash Chopra.
The Indian spinner hunted a 4-wicket haul in the previous match against Sri Lanka. Earlier, he grabbed 5 wickets against Pakistan. Yadav has emerged as the most dangerous spinner in Asia Cup 2023.
In 4 games, the left-arm spinner has picked 9 wickets at an average of 11.33. He is also the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. However, there are three more bowlers who account for 9 wickets.
