With two ICC events scheduled in the next two years, former Australian pacer Brett Lee has identified the Indian cricketer who can end the team’s World Cup drought. India lost yet another semi-final of yet another World Cup after going down against England in the semis of the T20 World Cup 2022.
India last won an ICC title MS Dhoni in 2013 which was the Champions Trophy. Since then they lost the semi-final of every ICC knockout game they featured in. In between, they failed to make the knockouts of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Semi-final defeats in the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2016 T20 World Cup, 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final, and the recent T20 World Cup semi-final loss have only added to their desperation to win a World Cup.
Speaking about the Indian team and their despair in recent ICC events, Brett Lee picked Suryakumar Yadav as the player who can end India’s wait to win the World Cup. SKY has been in fabulous form in T20Is scoring over 1000 runs in the calendar year becoming the only Indian cricketer to achieve the feat.
Suryakumar Yadav Will Win A World Cup For Team India: Brett Lee
“India did not win the T20 World Cup by the SKY rose. Of course, I am talking about Suryakumar Yadav. He is the new global T20 superstar. What a sensational 12-15 months he has had on the big stage. He has shown here on Australian grassy wickets where the ball skids through. His fearlessness, his shot selection is like a chess grandmaster. His execution is awe-inspiring and the smile on his face when he played it, it is priceless,” Lee said on his YouTube channel.
“SKY was one of the highlights for me at the T20 World Cup. He continues to bat with the same attitude. Not only will he score big runs but he will also someday win a World Cup for Team India. I love watching him play. My advice to SKY would be… no advice. Keep doing what you are doing, don’t change, don’t complicate things, back yourself” he further added.
He further said that with all of Surya’s talent and ability he needs to be backed by the coach and the captain to be that player who will help India win crucial games. Lee further said that the coach and the captain will have a huge role in building up SKY’s mindset for the big games.
“You can trust Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to just let them be the person he needs to be. The SKY would rise and this could lead to many more peaks for India in years to come,” he added.
