Bangladesh opener Litton Das has issued an apology for his recent distasteful remarks towards Bangladeshi media. The incident took place in Pune where the Bangladesh team is currently stationed for their next match in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The Bangla Tigers will be in action on October 19 when they take on hosts India in Pune. On Sunday (October 15), Litton Das lost his cool after seeing a few media personnel at the lobby of the team hotel in Pune, Hotel Conrad. A group of Bangladeshi journalists were in the hotel to interact with the players and click their photos.
Litton Das, however, was not at all impressed with their presence in the hotel and got offended. As per reports in Daily Star, the opener asked the hotel security staff: “Why are the media here? Why are they taking my photo?”
Litton Das apologises:
The hotel security staff did not take long to ask the Bangladeshi journalists to leave the hotel after Litton Das’ complaint. The Bangladesh star faced severe criticism for his behavior and unexpected outbursts. And on Monday (October 15), he issued an apology for his actions.
The right-handed batsman took to Facebook where he expressed regret over the incident, writing:
“I’m sincerely sorry for the unfortunate incident that took place at the team hotel yesterday. I actually hadn’t realised that so many people from the media would be present there. I apologise for the incident that unexpectedly took place. I’ve always been respectful towards the media. The contributions of the media in the progress of Bangladesh cricket is undeniable.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have made a mixed start to their campaign in the World Cup. In their World Cup opener, they beat Afghanistan by six wickets. But in the very next game, they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of England. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side now face an upheaval task against high-flying India in their next game.
