Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the match against the Rohit Sharma-led team in the ICC World Cup 2023. Young batter Najmul Hossain Shanto is leading the team in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan in their crucial match of the marquee tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan sustained a left quad injury during Bangladesh’s eight-wicket loss against New Zealand in Chennai. However, the left-handed batter continued to play in the game despite the injury. He also bowled his full 10-over quota and picked up one wicket for 54 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan Is Struggling A Bit – Najmul Hossain Shanto

During the toss for the India-Bangladesh match, stand-in skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan had been unable to recover from his injury and was replaced by Nasum Ahmed in the playing XI.

“He (Shakib) is struggling a bit, Nasum is coming in for him. We have some great memories against India, hopefully we continue our form. I hope it’ll be a great match. We love to see the crowd, hopefully they’ll support both teams. Hasan comes in for Taskin,” Shanto said.

The star all-rounder scored 55 runs in three games at an average of 18.33, with a strike rate of 69.62 and a best score of 40. The left-arm spinner took five wickets at an average of 27.20 and an impressive economy rate of 4.86.

Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed pride and excitement about captaining the team in Shakib’s absence. Shanto mentioned they want to bat first on a fresh wicket, aiming to set a competitive score.

“Proud moment for me and my family. We’d like to bat today. Looks a fresh wicket. If we put some good score, it’ll be good for the team,” he added.
