Yash Dayal's father, Chanderpal Dayal, shared the impact of his son being hit for five sixes in a final over by Rinku Singh in the IPL 2023 match. Chanderpal Dayal described it as an accident for them, adding that he still has the chanting of "Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes, five sixes" in his memory.

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh hit Yash Dayal for five sixes in the final over when 28 runs were needed off five deliveries in the IPL 2023. It was one of the disappointing moments in Dayal's cricketing career. He ended the IPL 2023 season with just two wickets and an economy rate of 11.79.

However, Yash Dayal rose through the ranks after the incident. The left-arm pacer earned his maiden call-up from the Indian team for the upcoming first Test of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He is one of four pacers in the squad along with Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Humare Liye Woh Ek Hadsa Tha - Yash Dayal's father, Chanderpal

Chanderpal Dayal recalled the days following the IPL 2023 incident where Rinku Singh hit his son for five sixes. He mentioned how children would taunt him with "Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes' chants.

"Humare liye woh ek hadsa tha (It was like an accident for us)," Chanderpal, a retired officer with the Accountant General's Office in Allahabad told PTI.

"The school bus would pass by, and kids would scream, ‘Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes.’ It was so painful -- why did this have to happen to my son?” he added.

Yash Dayal and his mother, Radha, were affected by the incident. Radha was so distressed that she fell ill and refused to eat. Chanderpal said that Yash had to rebuild his career after being released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024.

"His mother Radha was so distraught that she fell ill and refused to eat as Yash went into a shell. Titans also released him as he had to rebuild his career," Chanderpal recalled.

India Tum Khelke Rahoge - Chanderpal Dayal

Chanderpal Dayal shared that the family remained supportive and encouraged Yash not to give up. He revealed that their constant motivation helped Yash stay focused.

"Yash fell ill, but we never let him think about giving up. We, as a family, made a pledge. 'Jab tak tum (Yash) India nahin khelogey, chodenge nahin. India tum khelke rahoge (We won't stop until you play for India. You will play for India)."

"You will play for India. Me and my family would keep motivating him to ensure that he never thinks of giving up. And today, he’s in front of you," Chaderpal Dayal stated.

Yash Dayal was signed by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the IPL 2024 season, where he took 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.15. He also continued to perform well in domestic cricket, including a four-wicket haul in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Dayal earned his maiden Test call-up, ahead of Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed. However, the 26-year-old is unlikely to debut in the first Test, which is scheduled to start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 27.
