Ranchi is all set to host the IND vs ENG 4th Test from February 23-27. This will only be the third Test match at the venue. The previous Test match was played in 2019 between India and South Africa. India are leading the Test series 2-1 heading into the fourth Test.
Heading into the fourth Test, There are reports of Jasprit Bumrah likely to be rested in the fourth Test. He has picked up 17 wickets in the first three Test and is now likely to be given a break. Along with him, KL Rahul is also set to miss the fourth test. He has not yet recovered from his quadriceps injury that kept him out of the second and the third Test.
A BCCI report said that Rahul is almost 90 percent fit and his recovery process is going on at the NCA in Bengaluru. Devdutt Padikkal who was called in as his replacement in the third Test is retained in the squad for the fourth Test.
England, on the other hand, might have a few different plans for the fourth Test. Ben Stokes is thinking about resuming bowling to ease the workload on the rest of the bowlers.
The decision might have resulted after the battering the England spinners took with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan taking them to the cleaners. There are reports of Jonny Bairstow likely to be rested in Ranchi.
Speaking about the likely bowling combination, England might want to bring back Shoaib Bashir for the fourth Test in Ranchi. The venue historically has been a spin-friendly venue and the visitors would like to add an extra pinning option alongside Rehen Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Joe Root. Whether England plays two pacers or one will be an interesting observation.

Weather Report Of Ranchi
The Ranchi weather will be around 26-30 degrees for the first four days with conditions good for cricket. There is no threat of rain in the first four days with a gentle breeze blowing across as well. The players will play in the eastern part of India where there is still a sense of winter and thus conditions will be good for cricket. The weather forecast on day 5 reads as “Considerable cloudiness with a couple of showers in the afternoon”.
Pitch Analysis
So far only two Test matches have been played in Ranchi. The pitch has been a spin-friendly one. India posted nearly 500 batting first in the last Test match played at this venue in 2019 against South Africa. The pitch is expected to turn the most among all the other venues and thus teams will have a spin-dominant attack.
Weather Impact on IND vs ENG 4th Test
As said earlier, the weather conditions for the first four days of the Test match are pretty good. The temperatures will not be very high with the playing conditions pleasant. The fifth day has a forecast of rain. However, all three Test matches so far have ended inside the first days and the trend is expected to continue in Ranchi.
Conclusion
India have an opportunity to extend their lead in the series in Ranchi. After the battering in the third Test, England are on the back foot as need to chalk out a plan to stop the Indian batting lineup from piling up too many runs. This sets up the Test match to be an exciting contest.
