Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive defeat in the Semi Final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Blue were comprehensively beaten in all the 3 departments of the game. Skipper Rohit Sharma would be utterly disappointed as this time the team was looking ominous.

India now would be hoping that they start afresh against New Zealand. If we go with the selection, it looks like the panel has opted for youngsters. The decision to make Hardik Pandya the skipper has raised a lot of eyebrows as captaining against New Zealand would be a steep challenge.

Dinesh Karthik revealed the reason behind Yuzvendra Chahal’s non-selection.

“They didn’t sulk once or get upset once because they were very sure. At the start of the tournament they were said that under these conditions we would be playing you otherwise, it might be hard.

“So they were very aware and were preparing in such a way that when to get an opportunity they will try and do their best but there might be a chance that they end up not playing,” said Dinesh Karthik

“So when that clarity is there from the coach and captain it makes the job easier for the player because you just start looking inward and think okay what do I do to start preparing better.

“That is what they were doing and had they been given a chance they would have given their best. This is a very high-intensity tournament. As mentioned, he played a lot of matches for India and he knows the feeling of being dropped,” he added.

Questionable Selection

Chahal could have been the X factor for India as the team was struggling to pick wickets in the middle overs phase. Chahal would be wondering why he was benched despite picking wickets regularly for the team.

The management’s decision to drop Dinesh Karthik from the semi-final was a bit confusing. The right-handed batter could have made the difference as he is immensely experienced. It would be interesting to see whether Dinesh Karthik gets to play again as he doesn’t have the age on his side.
