All eyes are on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer at the moment as the Indian team prepares for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue are currently participating in a preparatory camp at Alur, near Bengaluru for the continental championship that will get underway this week.

The sixteenth edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin on August 30 with the game between hosts Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. Team India, on the other hand, will open their campaign on Saturday (September 2) against arch-rivals Pakistan in Pallekele.

The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently in Bengaluru to finetune their preparations for the competitions. And there is absolutely no denying that Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are garnering a lot of attention. Crucial members of India’s middle-order in ODIs, both the batsmen will make a return to competitive cricket in the Asia Cup. Both of them were sidelined with injuries for a good period.

Shreyas Iyer has not played a competitive game since suffering a back injury during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in March while Rahul was sidelined in May after suffering a thigh injury in IPL 2023. Both the batsmen have been named in the Asia Cup squad and will be looking to hit the ground running in international cricket ahead of the World Cup.

Promising update on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer:

While there are still concerns over Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries, Cricbuzz has reported that their progress has been satisfactory so far. There are still question marks over Rahul’s readiness for wicketkeeping as the selectors have also named Sanju Samson as a backup wicketkeeper but the 31-year-old has been making good progress.

On Sunday, the players enjoyed an off day and when the training resumes on Monday, Rahul will undertake more wicketkeeping duties. On Monday, Jasprit Bumrah and other players who were recently in Ireland for the T20I series will also join the team in Bengaluru before the team leaves for Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
