Former Indian all-format captain Virat Kohli might skip the upcoming three-match T20 International series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, which will be part of the Sri Lanka tour of India 2022.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, multiple sources close to Virat Kohli and the Indian team have told that there is a possibility that the former captain will be given break for the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka.
Kohli, however, is expected to make a comeback for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and play his 100th match in the longest format of the game in Mohali. Notably, the first Test match of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka will be played from March 4.
Also, if Kohli decides to take a rest for the first Test match, he will be playing his 100th Test game in Bengaluru, which is his virtual home ground, from March 12.
Rohit Sharma To Become New Test Captain After Virat Kohli’s Resignation – Reports
India’s squad for the upcoming Test and T20I series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team will be soon announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). And Indian white-ball captain Rohit Sharma is expected to be appointed as the new Test captain of the team.
The Test captain position has been vacant since Virat Kohli had stepped down from his role following the Test series defeat in South Africa against the Dean Elgar-led side.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who was last year appointed as white-ball captain, is likely to be appointed as the new Test captain ahead of the Sri Lanka series, which will make him an all-format captain of the Indian team.
