England pacer Stuart Broad revealed that James Anderson was shocked to hear about his retirement call. Stuart Broad has announced that he will retire after the ongoing Ashes 2023 series.

Stuart Broad and James Anderson have been two crucial pillars for England in Test cricket for the last few years. Both of them have played for England since 2008. Recently, Broad became the only second England pacer after James Anderson to get 600 wickets in Tests.

Stuart Broad Reveals James Anderson’s Reaction To His Retirement

While speaking to BBC Match Special, Stuart Broad revealed how James Anderson reacted to his retirement decision. Broad said Anderson was shocked to listen and said, “Are you joking”?

“He just said ‘are you joking? We then had a hug. It is always hard. When I spoke to Jimmy, I got a bit emotional. But ultimately, we have a game to win here. We can do the reminiscing afterward if we get the job done,” Broad said.

Right-arm pacer Broad has also shown impeccable form in Ashes 2023. With 20 scalps across 5 games, the 37-year-old is the leading wicket-taker for the team in the series. Broad and Anderson are also part of the 5th Test of Ashes 2023. In the 1st innings, Broad hunted 2 wickets while Anderson picked 1 wicket.

Meanwhile, James Anderson recently shut down his retirement rumours after Ashes 2023. The 41-year-old said that he has a still lot to offer to England team and will not retire from Tests anytime soon.

Talking about the match, England have gained good control in the ongoing 5th Test. England have set up a gigantic total of 384 for Australia in the 2nd innings. Earlier, England piled up 283-10 batting first.

In the 2nd innings, Australia piled up 295-10 on the board, gaining a 120-run lead. England later posted 395-10 in 2nd innings. Two more days are remaining in the match.

Australia lead the Ashes 2023 2-1 after four games. Australia won the opening two games by 2 wickets and 43 runs respectively. England won the 3rd Test by 3 wickets while the 4th Test ended in a draw.
