Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said that young Indian batter Prithvi Shaw has the ability to make his return to the national cricket team. Ricky Ponting believes that Prithvi Shaw can regain his form and reach great heights once again if he is determined enough.

Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in 2018. However, Shaw faced a setback in 2019 and received a ban due to a doping offence. He went down in the pecking order following his poor performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

I’d Put Prithvi Shaw Into That Category – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting recalled his statement from two years ago, where he mentioned Prithvi Shaw as one of the young Indian talents to keep an eye on. Ponting still believes that Shaw fits that category and has the potential to make a significant impact.

“If I wind the clock back a couple of years, I’d put Prithvi Shaw into that category as well,” Ponting said on The ICC Review.

“I still think he’s capable of getting back to that sort of, you know, if he wants to do it enough, I’m sure he can get back up there because talent-wise there’s no doubt in the talent he’s got,” he added.
