Yuzvendra Chahal after being benched for the three-match ODI series, came back into the first T20I and picked up two wickets. He is the top-wicket-taker for India in T20Is and one of the dependable bowlers in ODIs as well.

However, since the resurgence of Kuldeep Yadav in white-ball cricket at the start of 2022, Chahal has missed several matches as the left-arm chinaman was preferred. Kuldeep has already played 11 ODIs and four T20Is in 2023 picking up 25 wickets taken together. Chhal on the other hand, just nine wickets this year.

Chahal said that he is focused on the next four T20Is against West Indies and is not worried about getting selected for the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup squads.

“At present I need to perform well in the four matches. I think about one step at a time. After this series we’ll have a camp and then the team will be announced. I am not thinking about Asia Cup or World Cup now,” said Chahal before the second T20I.

Kuldeep Yadav Is Bowling Really Well: Yuzvendra Chahal

He further spoke about not playing alongside Kuldeep Yadav in recent times putting it down to the required team combinations saying that it is the priority of the team.

“Team combination is our priority and it is not something new. At 7 we generally play Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel. Three spinners can only play if the wickets are spin friendly. Kuldeep is bowling really well, he is in a great rhythm and that’s why team is backing him. I keep working on nets so that whenever I get the chance I will grab it” Chahal further said.

He sounded confident of India’s comeback in the T20I series with four games to go. He said that the loss does not change anything while giving credit to the West Indies for pulling off the victory. The second T20I will be played in Guyana on Sunday, August 6.

“We still got four matches to play. I think we must also give credit to West Indies because they played better cricket. We always think that oh you are playing against West Indies, you are going to win 5-0. It’s not true. It is all about who perform better on the given day,” Chahal concluded saying.
