IND vs WI: Watch - Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Hand Debut Test Caps To Ishan Kishan And Yashasvi Jaiswal

The 24-year-old India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and the 21-year-old opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal made their Test debut in the first Test of the two-match series against Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies National Cricket Team that commenced on July 12 at the Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.

Ishan Kishan was preferred over KS Bharat in the playing XI against the West Indies. Notably, Bharat, who was Rishabh Pant’s understudy for a long time, has failed to perform well for India in the 5 matches he got the opportunity. He has scored just 129 runs at a poor average of 18.4.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, has got his debut cap on the back of his sensational performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket. Ahead of the first Test, Rohit Sharma had confirmed that the shining star Jaiswal would open the innings with him and Shubman Gill will bat at the No.3 spot, which used to be Cheteshwar Pujara’s position.

Meanwhile, the youngsters got their debut caps from the modern-day batting greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Rohit handed the debut cap to Yashasvi while Kishan received his debut cap from Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli also gave a hug to the debutants after handing over the caps.

Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma said that he just wants the debutants to comfortably enjoy the match and make their debuts memorable.

“I want the two debutants to enjoy, they’ve worked hard to come here, I want to make them feel comfortable and have some good memories of their first Test,” Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

Talking about numbers, Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 1845 runs at an average of 80.21 in First-class cricket. While Ishan Kishan has scored 2985 runs at an average of 38.76 in the same format.
