Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha lavished praise on Ravichandran Ashwin after his stunning display with the ball on day one of the ongoing first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

Playing his first Test since being dropped from India’s playing eleven for the World Test Championship final against Australia last month, the off-spinner blew West Indies away with his 33rd five-wicket haul in the longest format of the game. Ravichandran Ashwin went past James Anderson to become the active cricketer with most five-wicket hauls in Tests.

After India failed to get the early breakthrough from the pacers, Ravichandran Ashwin clean bowled Tagenarine Chanderpaul with a beauty to give the team the first wicket of the day. Pragyan Ojha praises Ravichandran Ashwin:

With Ravichandran Ashwin receiving praise from all around for his performance, Pragyan Ojha has also joined the bandwagon in heaping praise over the spinner. While highlighting Ashwin’s impressive batting record against West Indies, Ojha stated that Ashwin was at his best with the ball in Dominica.

“He has got four hundreds against them. He made his debut against them, picking wickets and has done wonderfully well. The way he set up the batters was brilliant. He was varying his pace and the West Indies batters did not have answers to the questions that were thrown by Ashwin to them. The way he wrapped up the innings shows how important he is for the Indian team,” Ojha said on Jio Cinema.

The latest spell has further extended Ashwin’s impressive record against West Indies in red-ball cricket. The India star now has 65 wickets in 12 Tests at an average of 21.09 against the Caribbean outfit. He also became only the third Indian bowler to reach the 700-wicket mark in International cricket.

“If you see all the champion players, they cross that hurdle and make sure that they always deliver when the team needs them. Ashwin has always been special with the ball and he continues to do that,” Ojha said.

Team India have started well with the bat on Day 1 after bowling out West Indies in just 64 overs. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal has been solid for his unbeaten 40 while skipper Rohit Sharma has chipped in with 30 runs as the score reads 80-0 at Stumps.
