The ICC Champions Trophy is the next big ICC event that is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan. The tournament is expected to be played between February and March 2025 with India's participation in the tournament still in doubt.

India have not played a bilateral series against Pakistan since 2012/13 as they have continued to condemn the 2007 terror attacks. Since then the two teams have been playing in ICC events but have not played in a bilateral series.

Recently, Pakistan lost to India in the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed targeted the Indian government and the BCCI over their stance on the matter.

Talking to Dawn News Sports journalist, he slammed the Indian media and the government who have been denying talking about whether the BCCI will send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament. The anchor of the show accused the BCCI saying that the board has not yet discussed with the government about whether they will send their players to Pakistan.

Tanvir seemed agitated and angry in his response as he said that the PCB should not agree to the hybrid model which is expected to be proposed by the BCCI.

"The PCB should not agree to the hybrid model. The Pakistan cricket team went twice to India to play in 2016 and in 2023. Did our players not have any security concerns, our government did not deny them, instead they gave us permission and our players went to play in the World Cup. These people are lying," said the former Pakistan cricketer.

He further said that the Indian government and the BCCI will put pressure on the ICC to arrange the tournament in the hybrid model for them.

"The Indian government and the cricket board will now pressurize the ICC for the hybrid model, They are liars. They will say to the ICC that the government is not permitting us to go to Pakistan. When the Pakistan cricket team went to India for the ODI World Cup, I told back then that the Indian government would now allow their players to travel to Pakistan" Tanvir further said.

"ICC and India are one, there's no problem. They know they have ICC in their hands. If ICC agrees to the hybrid model demands, then it means they are below India (in terms of power). Band karo ICC."

He further blamed the Indian media for discussing the possibilities of the tournament being played in the hybrid model for India games. He questioned the authenticity of the Indian media on how they have projected this matter and how this discussion has been blown out of proportion.

With India hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup, the anchor of the show ended the discussion with a pertinent question. He said that India proposing the hybrid model themselves, they too might face the same problem if Pakistan and other cricketing nations deny traveling to India to play in ICC tournaments.

In May, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said that the Indian team would visit Pakistan for the tournament only if the Central government allowed it.
