India and Thailand women go head to head in the first semi-final at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. Both teams faced each other on October 10 with India beating Thailand by nine wickets.

Despite the defeat against India, Thailand managed to qualify for the semi-finals. This happened after their match against Bangladesh was cancelled due to rain. Thailand had six points heading into that game while Bangladesh had four. A win for Bangladesh would have taken them to the semis. They also had a far superior net run rate than their Asian rivals.

However, Thailand had a moment to make history on its own as the game was washed out due to rain. They qualified for the semifinals for the very first time in their Asia Cup history.

Smriti Mandhana who lead India on her 100th T20I against Thailand had a moment of history on her own as well. She is the only second Indian women cricketer after Harmanpreet Kaur to play 100 T20Is.

“Playing for India and playing the 100th T20, it’s a special feeling. The girls made it special. This Indian team is a fun team to play with. Thailand played good cricket in this tournament.

We were looking forward to come out and play. Our bowlers were brilliant. All the three batters did their job. We have the semifinal after two days. We’ll be working hard, looking forward to go out and play that” said Mandhana after leading India to a win.
