Mumbai Indians used 11.70 crore of their available budget of Rs. 15.35 crore in IPL 2021 auction. After the ouster of Lasith Malinga from the team, Mumbai Indians bought three bowlers in IPL 2021 auction to back up the team’s bowling zone. The Rohit Sharma-led team bought a total of seven players in the IPL 2021 auction.
Mumbai Indians re-signed Nathan Coulter-Nile after releasing him earlier. The Australian pacer became the costliest player for Mumbai Indians after he was bought for Rs. 5 crore. New Zealand pacer Adam Milne was another player who made his way into Mumbai Indians during IPL 2021 auction. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs. 3.2 crore.
Piyush Chawla, who was released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, was bought by Mumbai Indians during the auction. Mumbai Indians also decided to buy Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, hoping him to be a good future investment for the team.
After defending the title in IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians released seven players out of their squad. They were Prince Balwant Rai, Digvijay Deshmukh, Lasith Malinga, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Sherfane Rutherford and Mitchell McCleneghan.
The five-time IPL winners also retained 17 players for the next edition of IPL. Rohit Sharma, Aditya Tare, Anmolpreet Singh, Anukul Roy, Dhawal Kulkarni, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Quinton de Kock, Rahul Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav, Trent Boult, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary and Mohsin Khan were among the released players by Mumbai Indians.
