The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner and superstar Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan came up with a motivating message for his team and fans after their 18-run loss to the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday in Mumbai.
The margin of the loss could have been much larger for KKR if not for the knocks from Andre Russell (54 off 22), Dinesh Karthik (40 off 24), and Pat Cummins (66 off 34) after Eoin Morgan’s team lost 5 wickets inside the powerplay for the score of 31 while chasing 221.
Shah Rukh Khan, who had apologized earlier to the fans after KKR’s “disappointing performance” versus Mumbai Indians, now lauded the three lower-order batters for their fightback to keep the game alive till the last over of the chase. Shah Rukh Khan fondly known as ‘King Khan’ reckons if the batsmen continue with the same form, the side will make a comeback in the upcoming matches.
Shah Rukh Khan on valiant fightback from KKR:
“Coulda…woulda…shoulda can take a backseat tonight… @kkriders was quite awesome I feel. ( oops if we can forget the batting power play!!) well done boys… @ar12russell @patcummins30 @dk00019 try and make this a habit…we will be back!!” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted.

We have to be proud of getting so close and putting ourselves in the winning position: Eoin Morgan
Captain Eoin Morgan shared similar thoughts with his franchise owner earlier in the post-match presser. The left-hander says that he was more concerned with losing the game than thinking of the impact on the net run rate which could have taken a nosedive had not for the three batters.
Morgan is proud of the batters for the way they brought the game in touching distance after a poor powerplay.
KKR are position in the bottom half of the table with 3 losses in 4 matches – they won their first game but now have lost 3 on a trot. They meet Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals on Saturday at the same venue.
“I wasn’t worried about the net run rate (when we lost early wickets). When you are five down, you are bothered about the result of the game and try and find a solution to try and put yourself in a winning position.
“Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell did that. Their partnership did turn the momentum and the fortune our way, considering the really bad start we had,” Eoin Morgan said after the game.
“The whole of the innings, we were up with where CSK were in the position in the first innings. But, those five mistakes earlier did cost us. We have to be proud of getting so close and putting ourselves in the winning position,” he added.
