IPL 2022 Mega Auction: 3 Big Players Delhi Capitals (DC) Might Release. Despite the hurdles and challenges the COVID-19 pandemic posed before the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ensured the IPL 2021 was completed without much hindrance.

The tournament had to be halted in May owing to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India and subsequently had to be moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings won the IPL 2021 after a thumping win against Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final on October 15.

For many of the players, IPL 2021 could be the last time they might have played for the respective franchises.

As it is said ‘ The Show Must Go On’ and so like the Indian Premier League, one of the richest leagues in the sporting world, is set to once again expand the tournament with two new teams.

BCCI had floated an Invitation to Tender (ITT) inviting bids for owning two new teams to be inducted in IPL. Interested parties could buy the tender for a non-refundable ₹110 lakh plus taxes till October 5.

Hence IPL 2022 will see most of the players go under the auctions table as BCCI has planned a mega auction where each team will be able to retain a maximum of three players.

Delhi Capitals topped the table in the league stage with 20 points but were knocked out in playoffs after suffering back to back defeats in both rounds of Qualifiers.

Delhi Capitals

There was a change in Delhi Capitals captaincy as Shreyas Iyer suffered a shoulder injury ahead of the tournament and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant took over the responsibility for he entire season.

As the Capitals believe in young players taking up the leadership roles that could mean that both Pant and Iyer or either of them would be retained by the franchise.

Let us look at three players that could be released by DC ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction.

1) Prithivi Shaw

Shaw had an amazing start to IPL 2021 as he made 308 runs in the first phase of the tournament but when the league moved to UAE, Shaw couldn’t score at a rapid pace.

However he smashed six fours in an over to former U-19 teammate Shivam Mavi in a match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad.

Shaw might get released by the team if they hold on veteran Shikhar Dhawan or Iyer.

2) Shimron Hetmyer

West Indies’ destructive batsman Hetmyer scored 242 runs from 14 games in IPL 2021 and helped the team finish some close games.

Hetmyer is one of the clean strikers of the ball and his finish against CSK in a league stage match was a testimony how good he can bat under pressure.

Considering that DC might retain either of the South African pace bowlers Anrich Nortje or Kagiso Rabada, Heymer might be only picked by the Delhi-based franchise in IPL 2022 auction.

3) Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin picked seven wickets in IPL 2021 and was very close to pushing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021 final.

Ashwin was handed the final over by Delhi Capitals’ skipper, Rishabh Pant, to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2 where he had the task of defending seven runs.

He got two wickets in two balls before he was tonked by Rahul Tripathi for a six over long-off on the penultimate ball of the match.

However, the Tamil Nadu spinner would be confident to play for India in the T20 World Cup as he makes his way back to the side after a span of four years in the shortest format.
