Gujarat Titas (GT) bagged seven players in the IPL 2023 auction and completed a squad of 25 players. They still had 4.45 crores remaining after the completion of the auction. They retained 18 players and released six players from their winning squad. The Hardik Pandya-led ide defeated Rajasthan Royals to win the final in their debut season.

GT traded Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Lockie Ferguson to KKR. Gurbaz came in as a replacement but did not play a single game for the Titans. Ferguson had a key role to play in Gujrat’s success as he picked up 12 wickets from 13 games bowling with express pace.

Gujarat needed Lockie’s replacement as well as a good-quality Indian or overseas opener. They also needed another spinner as Rashid Khan‘s backup and an Indian all-rounder as Hardik Pandya‘s backup. They lack an experienced batsman in the middle order and hence that position also needed to be filled.

GT did well to retain the core retaining Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, and David Miller. Rahul Tewatia was another player who turned out to be a matchwinner for the side as he played several cameos in IPL 2022.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been in red-hot form in 2023 having already scored over 700 runs including the two white-ball formats. He made his T20I debut in the series against Sri Lanka and notched up his maiden T20I century in just his sixth T20I international. Gill has scored 567 runs in ODIs and 202 in T20Is. The Indian opener has consistently scored over 400 runs since IPL 2020 and will be Gujarat’s biggest hope with the bat in IPL 2023.

Rashid Khan

Rashid will be GT’s premier spinner heading into IPL 2023. He ended with 19 wickets in his very first season with the new franchise. His hunger to take wickets is increasing with every game that he is playing.

The Afghan skipper is currently leading the MI Cape Town side in SA20. Rashid Khan was also named Afghanistan’s T20I skipper after Mohammed Nabi stepped down as captain recently. Agin just 24, Rashid has over 450 T20 wickets and has played across the globe in the format.

Hardik Pandya

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya can be his team’s X-Factor heading into IPL 2023. He recently won the Man of the series in the T20I series win as captain against New Zealand. He has won every series as India’s T20I captain so far and is closing in on becoming the full-time T20I skipper.

Hardik has improved as a cricketer by leaps and bounds since assuming the role of captaincy in the IPL and it will keep him in good stead in the future.
