The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium just ended as the RCB won their second trophy and became the third team to defend the trophy of IPL after CSK and MI as they won by 5 wickets.
With RCB winning the toss and opting to field first, they did not make any changes from their win over the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. GT made one change, bringing in Arshad Khan for R Sai Kishore. The atmosphere was electrifying at the stadium as the fans came in large numbers to the largest stadium in the world.
Virat Kohli and run-chase are match-making in heaven
Being asked to bat first, the Titans were off to a decent start with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan going back in the following overs for scores of 10 and 12 runs, respectively. The RCB bowling unit was in their top form, especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Jacob Duffy. Even Jos Buttler struggled as he was back for 19 runs.
Washington Sundar, who survived controversially, played a superb knock on the night for his franchise. He scored a fifty in 37 balls as they posted 155/8 in their 20 overs, with Sundar being unbeaten till the end on a wicket which was much slower and the ball was stopping in the first innings.
Coming out to chase, Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli were off to a flying start. The Southpaw scored 32 runs off 16 balls, as Mohammed Siraj picked up the wicket, and Devdutt Padikkal went back for one run. Patidar also did not survive much past 15, and Krunal Pandya followed in the same over of Rashid Khan.
Kohli brought up his fifty in 25 balls and kept RCB in the run chase as it was his fastest half-century. Tim David was out on 24 off 17 balls, but Kohli remained unbeaten with a score of 75 runs as he finished the game off in style with a six.
