England’s 2019 World Cup opener Jason Roy snubs the likes of Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma to pick Shubman Gill as India’s future batting maestro. The 24-year-old Shubman Gill has had a terrific 2023 scoring 1584 runs in 29 ODIs this year. Gill is the only Indian batsman who has managed to score one century at least in all three formats of the game in 2023. In November he dethroned Babar Azam for the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI Batter’s rankings.

Shubman Gill became the youngest batter to score a double hundred in the ODI format when he scored 208 against New Zealand in Hyderabad. However, Gill did not have an auspicious campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He missed the first few matches due to illness and after that, he never got the touch back. However, he made a few contributions with the bat including a promising knock of 80 runs in the semi-finals.

Jason Roy, who is currently featuring for the Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, was asked to pick the future of batting during a ‘You have to answer’ segment of the ESPNCricinfo show. Roy chose Shubman Gill over his English teammate Harry Brook. Like Shubman Gill, Brook also made a promising start to his international career and was in red-hot form for England, especially in Test matches, with his aggressive approach.

Jason Roy Picks Shubman Gill Over Harry Brook

Harry Brook’s aggressive approach lured Sunrisers Hyderabad to sign him and they bid 13.25 crores for Harry Brook in the IPL 2023 Auction. However, he failed to live up to his expectations and had a horrible first season in the IPL. The only highlight for Harry Brook in the IPL 2023 was the ton that he scored against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Harry Brook lost his form and struggled consistently to score big runs for England in all three formats of the game after a horrendous IPL 2023. Brook was a part of England’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad, but in a total of six matches, he could only manage to score 169 runs. The 24-year-old right-handed batter replaced Jason Roy in the World Cup but failed to make an impact.
