Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah shared a warm moment with South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma following the first Test of the three-match series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The incident took place after the Shubman Gill-led team’s humiliating defeat on Day 3 (Sunday, November) of the match.

Bavuma scored an unbeaten 55 in South Africa’s second innings, while Corbin Bosch chipped in with 25 as the visitors reached 153. India needed 124 to start the series on a winning note. However, the home team, led by Shubman Gill, collapsed in the chase and were dismissed for just 93 in the final innings.

Players sprinted in from all corners as the catch was upheld. South Africa secured their first Test win in India in 15 years, taking a 1–0 lead in the two-match series. Temba Bavuma continued his outstanding record as captain, with 10 wins in 11 Tests.

India, meanwhile, were nine down with one batter unable to bat due to injury, leaving the chase incomplete. The collapse marked a rare run of four straight home defeats in the format.

After the final wicket, players from both teams exchanged handshakes, and Jasprit Bumrah shared a warm moment with Bavuma. The incident drew attention following Jasprit Bumrah’s earlier ‘bauna’ remark about the South African skipper.

Proteas Break Silence on Jasprit Bumrah’s ‘Bauna’ Comment About Temba Bavuma

During South Africa’s first innings, an LBW appeal and an on-field moment drew attention. In the 13th over, when Temba Bavuma was on strike, Jasprit Bumrah questioned whether to review the decision and was heard on the stump mic making a comment about the batter’s height.

At stumps on Day 1, South Africa’s batting coach Ashwell Prince addressed the incident. He downplayed the matter, saying it was the first time he had heard about it and adding that the team did not see any need for further discussion.

“No, there will be no discussion. It's the first time, obviously, it's come to my attention. I don't think there'll be any issues with what's happened out in the middle,” Ashwell Prince said.

Simon Harmer Instrumental in South Africa’s Victory in Kolkata Test

Simon Harmer, who has played only a few Tests since his debut ten years ago, delivered a remarkable all-round bowling performance. He claimed four wickets in each innings, finishing with figures of 4/30 and 4/21. His spells helped South Africa bowl India out for 189 and later 93.

Washington Sundar scored 31 runs off 92 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with 18. Aiden Markram broke Sundar’s long vigil, dismissing him with part-time off-spin.

Axar Patel decided to counterattack and dragged India closer to the target. Keshav Maharaj ended the contest by taking two wickets in two balls. He picked up the wickets of Axar and Mohammed Siraj to complete South Africa’s victory.
