New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson followed up Ajaz Patel’s gesture with one of his own as he donated his jersey to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Museum.

Ajaz donated the ball with which he claimed the historic 10-wicket haul last week against India at the Wankhede. Upon being requested, Williamson did the same and the MCA was quite thankful for the gesture.

After we requested the New Zealand media manager Willy Nicholls to ask his team if they can give us some memorabilia for our upcoming museum, Williamson was kind enough to provide us with his autographed T-Shirt. It’s a lovely gesture from him,” a source in the MCA was quoted as saying to TOI.

“It’s special to leave something behind” – Ajaz Patel after donating the ball

Ajaz Patel became only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to take all ten wickets in an innings. He emulated the feat of Jim Laker and Anil Kumble, who had achieved the milestone in 1956 and 1999. He also ended the match with best figures for a bowler against India in Tests.

It’s a special bit of memorabilia for them to be able to keep here. It’s special for me as well to leave something behind in Mumbai with my name on it. Because anyone who sees it will know that I’ve been here and achieved something,” Ajaz stated.

India won the 2-match series by a 1-0 margin. The first match ended in a pulsating last-day draw where Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel managed to keep the Indian bowlers at bay for the last wicket. India finished the job in the second Test, however, and claimed a thumping 372-run victory.
